Birmingham's own Janet Simpson has been part of the Magic City's music scene for over two decades, contributing to numerous groups and honing her craft.

Her 2021 album Safe Distance - her first solo album in over twenty years - is excellent and showcases her folksy singer/songwriter talent. Its lead single, "Nashville Girls," is as catchy as it is introspective.

Simpson has written music for film and TV projects over the years and works in Birmingham as the director of communications and development for Crisis Center.
